Joe Sweeney, District Governor 2026-2027
Joe Sweeney of the Rotary Club of Prescott Valley has been selected to serve as District 5495 Governor for the 2026–2027 Rotary year. A California native, Joe previously served as president of the Rotary Club of Santa Clara (2017–2018) and as a board member of the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation. He also served as an Assistant Governor in District 5170 before relocating to Arizona in 2020.
Joe and his wife Linda, also a dedicated Rotarian and current President of the Prescott Frontier Rotary Club, moved to Prescott with a continued passion for service. Joe served as president of the Rotary Club of Prescott from 2021 to 2023, proudly leading the club through its 100th anniversary celebration. He was appointed Assistant Governor in District 5495 in 2021 and served through 2025, supporting the three Prescott-area clubs as well as several large clubs in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas.
With support from the Rotary Club of Prescott Sunup, Joe and fellow Rotarian Bob Ticer restarted the previously inactive Rotary Club of Prescott Valley in early 2025. With 30 new members committed to Rotary, the club is set to receive its official charter from Rotary International in the fall of 2025.
“We have a lot of excitement within our club,” says Club President Bob Ticer. “Our members are eager to grow, serve, and make a real impact in the Prescott Valley community through fundraising and hands-on service.”
Joe currently serves on the District Visioning Committee, helping clubs chart a strategic path forward. A graduate of both the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) and Rotary Leadership Academy (RLA), he now gives back as an RLI facilitator and RLA coach. He and Linda are proud members of the Paul Harris Society and dedicated supporters of The Rotary Foundation.
While in California, Joe helped charter two Rotary clubs—one serving the LGBTQIA community in San Jose and another, the Rotary Club of Silicon Andhra, composed primarily of members from the Andhra Pradesh region of Southern India. He also co-founded the Rotary Means Business networking group in District 5170 and helped launch the successful Silicon Valley BBQ Championships fundraiser.
Since moving to Arizona, Joe has played a vital role in building a districtwide partnership with the American Red Cross, helping coordinate Rotary-supported blood drives across the state.
“I am committed to working tirelessly to support and empower our clubs, advance Rotary’s initiatives, and ensure our district continues to make a meaningful impact—both in our communities and around the world,” says Joe. “Together, we can strengthen Rotary’s legacy of service.”
Joe is the founder of a printing business originally based in California, which now operates in Arizona. He and Linda have three grown children.

Phoenix Rotary 100: Let’s Help Make Polio History!
World Polio Day — October 24
Imagine a world where no child faces paralysis from polio. That’s the future Rotary is working toward—and Phoenix Rotary 100 is part of making it possible!
On October 24, we join Rotary members around the world to celebrate extraordinary progress and renew our commitment to ending polio for good. Since 1988, Rotary and its partners have helped reduce polio cases worldwide by 99.9%. Rotary’s efforts have helped protect more than 3 billion children in 122 countries.
That’s an incredible legacy of service, but the work continues. Polio is a potentially deadly disease that primarily affects children under five. Vaccines prevent polio, and continued funding helps deliver those vaccines, reach children in underserved communities, and track the virus so outbreaks can be stopped.
Let’s bring our Phoenix Rotary 100 spirit to this final push!
We’ll highlight World Polio Day at our October 23 club meeting, where we’ll also share the Central High Interact Club “match” challenge. It’s a wonderful opportunity to join forces with young people who are stepping up to make a difference.
To pledge or learn more, contact Tony Cerato, Phoenix Rotary 100 Foundation Chair, at tcerato@aol.com.
We’ve come so far. Let’s keep the momentum going—together, we can help make polio history!

Mexico - USA Friendship Conference
November 5 - 8, 2026, Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico
Join Rotarians from Mexico and the United States for four days of friendship, international service,
and Global Grant opportunities.
The Mexico USA Friendship Conference and Global Grants Exchange was started in 2000 between Rotary districts in Arizona and Mexico. As the name suggests, it is a Rotary conference focused on friendship between members in both countries, and it is also the best way for your club to get involved in international Global Grant projects.
Over the years, the conference has produced global grant projects in every area of focus. Millions of dollars from the Rotary Foundation have been used to fund high-impact projects implemented in Mexico, the USA, and around the world.
The conference alternates each year between Arizona and Mexico. The dates vary depending on the organizers' schedules and the districts’ leadership teams.
If your club has never participated in a global grant, this conference is a great way to get started by either proposing a project or making a funding pledge. The beauty of clubs working together comes from leveraging Rotary Foundation giving to make a lasting impact in our communities and around the globe.

Who We Are:
Rotarians are leaders in their vocation, profession and community. We meet weekly to discuss improving the lives of people, both locally and globally. We need and encourage diversity of membership in order to be more effective in this task. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self” and Rotary is an organization of over 33,000 local clubs serving their communities around the world.
Phoenix Rotary 100 was founded in 1914 as the 100th club to join Rotary. Through the years, Phoenix Rotary 100 has been at the forefront of community service in Phoenix and beyond, with a past and present membership list reading like Who’s Who in the State’s history. Mayors, governors, U.S. senators and one Supreme Court Justice have all been a part of Phoenix Rotary 100. Other famous Rotarians include: Neil Armstrong, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, Dianne Feinstein, Gerald Ford, John F. Kennedy, Charles Mayo, J.C. Penney, Manny Pacquaio, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Charles Walgreen, Sam Walton, Woodrow Wilson and Orville Wright, to name just a few.
